COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 28, 2021) – Junior beach players, get ready for Florida! USA Volleyball will hold the 2021 USA National Beach Tour Junior Championship on July 10-15 in Fort Lauderdale.

The Junior Championship is USA Volleyball’s largest beach competition of the season, boasting 506 teams in 2019, and prizes include medals and USAV swag.

“We are excited to bring the 2021 USA National Beach Tour Junior Championship to Fort Lauderdale,” said Mike Sophia, Vice President, Sports and Entertainment for Visit Fort Lauderdale. “We think families will find plenty to enjoy after a day of volleyball on our golden beaches. We look forward to helping USA Volleyball make this a great event for everyone.”

The 2021 National Beach Tour Junior Championship is the culmination of the 2020-21 USA National Beach Tour, which started in September. Teams have been earning bids to the National Championship by competing in Beach National Qualifiers and Beach Regional Qualifiers around the country. To find qualifying tour events near you visit nationalbeachtour.com.

Teams have earned bids to the Open Division and the American Division (girls only). Teams that didn’t earn a bid can still register to compete in the Patriot Division.

Among the players who have competed at the Junior Championship and gone on to play internationally for USA Volleyball are Audrey and Nicole Nourse, who have competed on the FIVB World Tour. Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks and also Tim Brewster and John Schwengel all played in the Youth Olympic Games after competing in the Junior Championship.

The National Beach Tour Junior Championship is focused on fun and competition, but also on safety as athletes and fans will be required to follow local mandates for protection during the pandemic. For more information on the event as well as COVID protocols visit usavolleyball.org.

USAVplay Beach Camp

Prior to the Junior Championship, USAV’s National Team Development Program (NTDP) will hold its first-ever USAVplay Beach camp for girls ages 9-14 and boys ages 9-15 on July 7-9 in Fort Lauderdale.

USAVplay is designed to provide younger and newer players with opportunities to develop skills and confidence in high-energy and developmentally appropriate camps and clinics. This multi-day camp will adopt the principles of small-sided games proven to help accelerate development by increasing the number of opportunities athletes have to perform key skills during training and competition.

These are not tryouts, and there is no expectation of being “seen” or recruited. These are purely about development and fun. USA Volleyball will offer a discount to families registering athletes for both the USAVplay Beach camp and NBTJC. Details will be available soon.
