COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2018 FIVB World Tour season will begin this week with an event in Montpellier, France.

The 2018 FIVB World Tour officially starts on Sept. 7 with the men-only Montpellier 1-Star tournament. The U.S. is sending one team to the competition.

Representing the United States at Montpellier 1-Star will be Adam Roberts and Jon Mesko in the qualifier. The duo will play the qualification matches on Sept. 7 to earn one of four remaining spots in the 16-team main draw bracket. The main draw begins on Sept. 8, with the finals being played on Saturday, Sept. 9.

UPDATE Sept. 7: Mesko and Roberts lost in the qualification first round to Switzerland, 21-14, 18-21, 15-13. With the loss, the U.S. has been eliminated from the tournament.

FOUR ATHLETES EARN FIVB POSTSEASON AWARDS
The postseason FIVB World Tour awards were announced on Sept. 5 and four U.S. athletes took home accolades. Three-time Olympian Phil Dalhausser was named the men’s Most Outstanding Player, Best Blocker and Best Offensive Player. Dalhausser has received 30 FIVB accolades, and is the all-time leader in FIVB postseason awards. Olympian April Ross earned her ninth award, with her fifth Best Server honor. First-time recipients Sara Hughes and John Hyden also were honored, receiving Best Rookie and Most Inspirational, respectively.

HIGH PERFORMANCE ADDS TO EVENTS TO 2017 CALENDAR
The High Performance program will host two additional events in 2017, with the Nov. 24-26 Girls’ Winter Camp for U15 and U17. From Dec. 26-30, there will be a U19 FIVB World Championships camp and U.S. Trials. Both events will be hosted at the Elite Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
