COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The FIVB World Tour continues its swing through Australia, hitting up esteemed Manly Beach in Sydney for a women’s only 2-Star event this weekend. At home in the U.S., the second of four Beach High Performance Skills Assessment Camps will take place in California while the NCAA beach volleyball season will see the top ranked teams clash in Hawaii.

The FIVB Sydney 2-Star tournament will be March 17-19 with 24 women’s teams in the playing field. The U.S. has two teams registered in the main draw and one team on the reserve.

The FIVB Sydney tournament format is a single elimination bracket starting March 17. The semifinals and final will be played on March 19.

UPDATES AS OF MARCH 16 – COLLEGIATE BEACH CHAMPIONSHIPS AND FIVB ROME
USA Volleyball will host the double-gender Collegiate Beach Championships, to be held from May 11-13 on Hermosa Beach in California. The competition field will consist of 24 women’s pairs and eight men’s pairs, playing for the title which will earn them a spot on a USA Volleyball collegiate beach national team. NBCSN will air the women’s final live on May 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. ET, and immediately afterwards the taped delayed men’s final.

The FIVB Rome 5-Star tournament has been canceled, leaving only three 5-Star events on the schedule in 2017 (remaining are Porec and Gstaad). The Rome tournament, scheduled for June 6-11, was officially confirmed by FIPAV to be cancelled due to the financial difficulties.

FIVB WORLD TOUR FINALS TO BE HOSTED IN GERMANY
The 2017 Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals will be hosted in Hamburg, Germany, from Aug. 22-27. Previously it was thought the season-ending event would be held in Canada, but the FIVB announced on March 8 that the 5-Star Hamburg event is instead the Finals, with the slight adjustment to the expected days. The top 12 teams per gender will play for the $800,000 prize total in the third edition of the FIVB World Tour Finals.

Eight teams will qualify through the FIVB World Ranking and four wild cards will be granted, the confirmed entry list will be announced on Aug. 8. The last qualifying tournament for the Finals will be the Beach World Championships, which wraps on Aug. 6 from Vienna, Austria. A maximum of two teams per gender, per nation, is applied to the entry list.

BEACH HIGH PERFORMANCE SKILLS ASSESSMENT CAMP IN CALIFORNIA
The second of four 2017 USAV Beach High Performance Skills Assessment Camps will be this weekend, March 18-19, in Santa Barbara, California. The Pacific Zone camp is open to boys and girls born in 1999-2006. Entry into the Beach High Performance programs is based upon selection from the camps, with athletes able to attend any of the four zonal camps regardless of which zone they reside in.
