COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 24, 2020) – Top women’s and men’s collegiate beach volleyball pairs will battle for slots to the 2020 World University Championships at the 2020 Team USA Summer Champions Series Collegiate Beach Championships on May 6-9 in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

The USA Volleyball event in its fourth year will be part of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Team USA Summer Champions Series presented by Xfinity.

The winning teams at the Collegiate Beach Championships will represent the United States at the World University Championships on June 23-27 in Málaga, Spain.

The Collegiate Championships have highlighted stars of the future. The winners of the first women’s championship title in 2017, USC’s Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, are both competing for slots at the 2020 Olympic Games this year.

Michael Saeta, one of the men’s winners in 2017, is competing internationally for the U.S. Men’s National Team on the indoor side.

Qualification matches will be played Wednesday, May 6. The event will be live streamed on May 7-9 with the women’s final shown live on NBC Sports Network at 3:30 p.m. PT on May 9.

The Collegiate Beach Championships give women’s and men’s collegiate beach volleyball pairs a chance to shine and gets top athletes in the national team pipeline.

On the women’s side, it allows schools the chance to have a pair title after the NCAA’s team championship on May 1-3. For the men, it puts a focus on the college beach game.

In 2019, Louisiana State’s Claire Coppola/Kristen Nuss repeated as women’s champions. Adam Wienckowski, representing Florida Atlantic University took his second straight men’s title playing with UCLA’s Tim Brewster.

A maximum of 32 teams from each gender will compete in the main draw tournament, which starts May 7. The qualification bracket (played on May 6) will send eight teams of each gender, out of a maximum of 24, to the main draw.

A USAV beach Paravolley event and a USAV beach high performance tryout will be held in conjunction with the Collegiate Championships.
