COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 17, 2019) – The U.S. Men’s Pan American Cup Team fell to Chile, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19 on Monday in Colima, Mexico.

The U.S. Men (1-1) will finish pool play on Tuesday at 2 p.m. PT against the Dominican Republic (1-1). The matches are being shown on FloVolleyball.tv, a subscription service.

On Monday, the U.S. struggled in transition as Chile switched up its tempo and kept the U.S. Men off balance.

“There are definitely areas that we need to work on,” said U.S. outside hitter Colton Cowell, who led the U.S. with 17 points on 16 kills and one ace. “Chile did a very good job playing in a different rhythm; they were changing the tempo in the offense. It was very fast and difficult for us.”

The U.S. led Chile in kills (51-45). The U.S. hitting efficiency was .321. Chile’s was .381. Chile out-blocked the U.S. (12-4) and the teams tied in aces (6-6).

The U.S. scored 27 points on Chile’s errors while committing 31.

Opposite James Shaw finished with 14 points on 14 kills and outside hitter Sam Holt scored nine points on seven kills and two aces.
