COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 8, 2020) – Phil Dalhausser and Delaney Mewhirter won the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the Florida Pro Best of the Beach titles on Sunday at Hickory Point Beach.

In the men’s final, Dalhausser and his selected partner Avery Drost defeated Taylor Crabb and his selected partner Trevor Crabb, 17-21, 21-17, 15-10.

“We started off strong the first set, but then the Crabbs made some plays to win the first one,” Dalhausser told The SpikeNet. “Then they jumped up early. But we had a huge momentum shift and it just stayed on our side all the way through the second and third sets.”

Drost added: “When Phil’s on your team, you’re always in it. Just keep siding out and staying in it. I wanted to reward him for picking me up.”

In the women’s final, Mewhirter and her selected partner Kelly Claes beat Kelley Kolinske and her selected partner Emily Stockman, 22-20, 21-16.

“It’s an overwhelming feeling,” Mewhirter told The SpikeNet. “I didn’t expect to win it coming here so it’s just such a bonus. There’s no one I would rather had won it with so it’s just so special to win it with Kelly.”

“We talked a little last night about strategy,” Claes said. “Delaney usually plays left side and she usually blocks. But she wanted to switch it up a little for this one. I think she played great and it was super fun to play with her.”

Dalhausser and Mewhirter each won $7,000.

Four winners emerged from pool play on Saturday: Dalhausser, Taylor Crabb, Miles Partain and Chaim Schalk on the men’s side and Mewhirter, Kelley Kolinske, Sarah Schermerhorn and Allie Wheeler for the women.

In Sunday’s men’s semifinals, Dalhausser/Drost beat Partain/Theo Brunner, 21-17, 22-20 and Crabb/Crabb beat Schalk/Bill Kolinske, 21-19, 21-12. In the women’s semis, Mewhirter/Claes beat Wheeler/Kim Hildreth, 21-18, 21-16 and Kolinske/Stockman beat Schermerhorn/Corrine Quiggle, 21-11, 21-15.
