COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 24, 2019) – The new beach volleyball team of Amanda Dowdy/Corinne Quiggle took the silver medal in its first international tournament on Sunday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Dowdy/Quiggle, who got a wild card entry into the tournament, finished with a 5-2 record.

In the semifinals, they beat Thailand’s Tanarattha Udomchavee/Rumpaipruet Numwong, 21-16, 21-18. Greece’s Vasiliki Arvaniti/Panagiota Karagkouni won the final, 21-14, 21-17.

“I’m so proud of our team. A lot of fight, focus, and preparation earned us the podium here in Cambodia,” Dowdy said in an Instagram post. “Corinne Quiggle, you are a stud! I love sharing the court with you. CONGRATS on your first FIVB medal! Many more to come in your future! Congrats to team Greece for putting up a heck of a battle.”

Among the other U.S. teams that competed in Cambodia, Caitlin Ledoux/Geena Urango got the farthest, finishing tied for fifth after losing to Arvanitit/Karagkouni in the quarterfinals, 21-12, 21-16.

The new team of Brittany Hochevar/Carly Wopat finished tied for ninth after losing to Dowdy/Quiggle in the Round of 16, 21-10, 21-18.

Jessica Gaffney/Molly Turner lost in the qualifier.

U.S. beach teams will compete next at the FIVB World Tour three-star tournament on March 5-10 in Sydney, Australia.
