Girls U19 National Team competing at Pan Am Cup

TULSA, Oklahoma (July 18, 2022) – The U.S. Girls U19 National Team started fast and didn’t slow down in its 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-12) victory over Mexico on Monday in their first pool play match of the 2022 Pan American Cup at the Cox Business Convention Center in Tulsa.

The United States (1-0) will play Canada (1-0) at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday. All matches are being livestreamed at ballertv.com.

OFFICIAL STATISTICS

Every player on the U.S. roster started at least one set. All but libero Laney Choboy scored at least one point. Choboy finished with 13 digs and eight excellent receptions.

“We have some people for whom it was their first time in a USA uniform,” U.S. Head Coach Jamie Morrison said. “It was nice to get some people on the floor and get that experience for everyone in the first match. We’re really treating our matches as an extension of the work that we’ve done with the 20-person preliminary roster. I thought we did a really good job of dialing in some things we have been working on.”

Middle blocker Andi Jackson, who started the second and third sets and was the only player in the match to score in double figures, led the U.S. with 11 points on seven kills, a match-high three aces and one block.

“Andi has been doing some lonely work on her serve,” Morrison said. “I though she had a really good match overall.”

Starting outside hitters Harper Murray and Julia Blyashov and backup outside hitter Torrey Stafford each scored eight points. Murray and Stafford each finished with five kills, two blocks and an ace. Blyashov connected on seven kills and a block.

Middle blocker Nya Bunton, who started all three sets, scored six points on four kills, one block and one ace.

Starting opposite Kira Hutson scored two points on a kill and a block. Backup outside hitter Cari Spears scored two points on a kill and an ace. Starting middle blocker and Team Captain Maggie Mendelson scored two points on a kill and a block.
