COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 21, 2017) – Molten USA, a long-time partner of USA Volleyball, will participate in National Health Through Fitness Day (NHTF Day) by joining three- time U.S. Paralympic Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team player Katie Holloway and the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) in Washington, D.C. for meetings with the United States Congress on March 22.
Holloway will address Congress on the importance of the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act and the sedentary crisis in America.
“I’m beyond honored to be chosen by Molten USA to represent USA Volleyball at this event,” said Holloway, a gold medalist at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
National Health Through Fitness Day is the culmination of a year-round effort by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) and its many sponsors to pass major U.S. legislation to “Get America Moving”. Approximately 150 leaders from the sports, fitness, and PE industries lobby Congress to pass key legislation which will help the country overcome sedentary lifestyles and the obesity epidemic.
One example of pro-health legislation promoted by the SFIA is the PHIT Act, which was introduced to Congress in October 2015 and would provide an incentive for Americans to get fit in order to reduce healthcare costs related to preventable chronic diseases. Molten became an Alliance Sponsor of PHIT America in 2013. Overall, there are more than 110 companies and organizations that have committed to be PHIT America Alliance Sponsors.
“Molten is elated to be a part of legislation that promotes physical activity,” said Molten USA President Melissa Dawson, “The PHIT bill strongly reinforces Molten’s internal philosophy. Molten is a sport advocate and strongly feels all types of athletics can be used as inspirational and powerful motivators. Living an active lifestyle is key to physical and mental health; and sports are a great way to stay healthy while having fun doing it.”
