COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 8, 2025) – It’s the dawn of an exciting new era in professional volleyball as two domestic professional women’s leagues begin their seasons this week. The first serve of the inaugural season of League One (LOVB) is tonight, and the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) begins its second season on January 9. The two leagues join Athletes Unlimited (which just completed its fourth season) as viable alternative options to competing in overseas leagues for professional women’s volleyball players. All three leagues include numerous current and former U.S. National Team athletes.
LOVB
League One Volleyball is built from a grassroots-up model of an organization that starts a foundation at the junior level with LOVB clubs.
After much anticipated buildup to the first season, LOVB has stationed franchises in Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah; Austin, Texas; Madison, Wisconsin; and Omaha, Nebraska. LOVB (pronounced “love”) will feature 17 Olympians, including 10 members of the 2024 Olympic silver medal-winning U.S. Women’s National Team.
First Serve between LOVB Salt Lake and LOVB Atlanta is tonight at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta. Fans not in Atlanta can watch on ESPN Plus at 7:30 p.m. EST. Other matches in the LOVB First Serve series this week include Austin at Houston on Jan. 9, Madison at Austin Jan. 10, and Omaha at Houston, also on Jan. 10. Those matches can also be seen on ESPN Plus.
Throughout a 14-week season, all six teams will play each week. There will be a mid-season tournament (the LOVB Classic) in February with all six teams in Kansas City. The season culminates with the LOVB Finals in Louisville in April.

PVF operates at a major league level and is advancing a traditional league model with teams in major markets across the country. PVF is proud to be the first league in the world to share revenue with its players from the first day of operation.
PVF brings over a majority of the FIVB rules and regulations with some variation. The league rules allow eight substitutions; two liberos can enter in the same set; and a 15-second clock to serve is used. More league rules.
PVF currently features eight teams located in Atlanta, Georgia (Vibe); Columbus, Ohio (Fury); Grand Rapids, Michigan (Rise); Indianapolis, Indiana (Indy Ignite); Omaha, Nebraska (Supernovas); Orlando, Florida (Valkyries); San Diego, California (Mojo) and Las Vegas, Nevada (Vegas Thrill).
The PVF season runs from January to mid-May with games broadcast on Fox Sports, CBS and YouTube.
