COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 13, 2020) – The FIVB has set the competition schedule for indoor volleyball at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and fans in the USA will have plenty of prime time viewing to watch Team USA.
Volleyball returns to the place where it made its Olympic program debut in 1964. For the first time in Olympic history, the women’s final will conclude the tournament on the final day on August 9, just a few hours ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Closing Ceremony and one day after the men’s gold is decided.
The men’s and women’s preliminary round matches will be held on alternating days starting with the men’s competition on July 25. The U.S. Men will play three of their five preliminary matches in prime time for most fans to watch in the USA, while the U.S. Women will play four of their five preliminary matches in prime time.

The men’s quarterfinals will take place Aug. 4 with the top seed in each pool crossing over to play the fourth seed in the opposite pool. A drawing will take place to determine quarterfinal crossover opponents for the second and third seeds. The semifinals are set for Aug. 6 with the medal-round matches on Aug. 8.
The women’s quarterfinals will take place Aug. 5 with same the formula used in the men’s competition. The semifinals are set for Aug. 7 with the medal-round matches on Aug. 9.
All indoor volleyball matches will be held at the newly constructed Ariake Arena.
Prior to the Olympic Games, both the U.S. Men and U.S. Women will compete in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, which serves as an important tournament leading into Olympics. The VNL will allow Team USA to fine tune their skills as well as athletes to make a final push to be included on the 12-player Olympic Games roster.
