COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 30, 2019) – USA Volleyball is excited to welcome Dr. Peter Vint to serve as its Chief of Sport effective immediately. In the newly created position, he will oversee USA Volleyball’s indoor, beach, sitting, snow and beach ParaVolley national teams as well as the High Performance and Coaching Education departments.

“I am proud to welcome Peter to USA Volleyball and know that he will make a huge impact on our sports performance programming from day one,” USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis said. “This new organizational structure provides a linear trail for our high performance programs directly to our national teams and will further solidify USA Volleyball’s position as the ‘path to the podium’ for our members and USA’s top athletes. Having medaled in every Olympic Games since 1984, being able to utilize Peter’s vast sports science expertise will help USA Volleyball’s Olympic and Paralympic teams continue our streak of competitive excellence leading into the Tokyo 2020 Games. Furthermore, incorporating Peter’s vision and knowledge into our Coaching Education offerings will make USA Volleyball’s IMPACT and Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) invaluable as we strive to be the leader in improving volleyball coaching standards across the country.”

“I am humbled by and grateful for the opportunity to serve USA Volleyball in the capacity of Chief of Sport,” Vint said. “I consider it both an honor and a privilege to return to the sport that in 1984, watching the men’s indoor gold-medal performance during the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, provided me with the impetus to pursue the field of sport science. I could never have imagined that those few hours would have led to such a rewarding career working with and supporting some of the most remarkable athletes and coaches on the planet.”

Vint comes to USA Volleyball with more than 20 years of experience working with some of the world’s most successful Olympic and professional sport organizations and athletes, helping them achieve their dreams. He spent 10 years at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), first as a senior sport technologist from 2005-09 before being promoted to director of high performance from 2009-12. Vint served as senior director of competitive analysis, research and innovation for the USOPC from 2012-15.

During Vint’s time with the USOPC, he worked with USA Volleyball on many levels. Vint developed and delivered comprehensive opponent scouting, video and analytics support for our beach volleyball teams including the two 2008 Beijing Olympic Games gold-medal winning teams of Kerri Walsh Jennings/Misty May-Treanor and Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers. Overall, he has been a four-time official Olympic Games delegation member from 2006 to 2012.

In 2016, Vint was hired by Everton Football Club as the Premier League’s first American-born Academy Director. In that role, Vint was responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Academy Performance Plan and the leadership of staff in support of the physical, tactical, technical, psychosocial and educational development of 160 Academy players ranging in age from U9 to U19.

In 2018, Vint returned to his sport science, technology and analytics consulting work and, most recently, served as the performance director for the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in support of Kenyan world-record holder Eliud Kipchoge successfully breaking the two-hour barrier in the marathon.

“I am truly excited to now have the chance to fully dedicate myself to supporting USA Volleyball’s Men’s and Women’s National Teams, Coaching Education program, and efforts in High Performance,” Vint said. “I envision beginning this next chapter of my professional work in the same way I started it: with an eagerness to learn and with a genuine commitment to make a positive difference in the sport I love.”
