COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2021) – USA Volleyball has hired University of San Diego Women’s Volleyball Associate Head Coach Alfred “Alfee” Reft to serve as its seasonal assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Reft played libero for the U.S. Men’s National Team from 2006-10 and was an Olympic alternate in 2008. He returned to the team in 2012-15. Reft served as a volunteer assistant coach for both the U.S. Women’s and Men’s teams in 2016-18.
Reft has also coached at the club level and at the University of Minnesota and the University of Illinois. He joined the University of San Diego in the spring of 2020 and will remain on staff there while also helping the U.S. Women.

U.S. Women’s Head Coach Karch Kiraly is looking forward to working with Reft.
“As a person, Alfee is a joy to collaborate with,” Kiraly said. “As a coach, Alfee has built a master skillset working with a number of top college programs, first in the B1G, and now with USD. Put the two together, and he’s a natural fit for our Women’s National Team staff.”
San Diego Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Jennifer Petrie is supportive of the move.
“The University of San Diego volleyball program is proud to support Alfee Reft in his newly appointed position as the seasonal assistant coach for the Women’s National Team,” Petrie said. “It is an honor to have Alfee coaching within our program alongside USA Volleyball. Alfee’s strong passion, knowledge and dedication to the sport of volleyball combine to make him an invaluable member of any coaching staff. The entire USD program is excited to watch him thrive with this amazing opportunity in his coaching career.”
Reft moves into the role held by Tama Miyashiro, who is now a full-time assistant coach with the team.
