COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In the final playoff for the NORCECA Continental Tour, Caitlin Ledoux and Emily Stockman won the women’s bid and Ryan Doherty and John Mayer the men’s.
Only two events remain on the 2016 NORCECA beach schedule, the fourth and final U.S. playoff was for the St. Lucia, October tournament that will be held the 14-16th in Pigeon Point.
Winners of the women’s bracket, Ledoux/Stockman went 4-0 on the day as the five seed, topping the first seeded Kendra Vanzwieten and Kimberly DiCello, 21-16, 21-19, in the semifinal. In the final, the pair swept No. 2 Emily Day/Irene Pollock 21-17, 21-17.
The men’s winners came by way of No. 1 seeded Doherty and Mayer. The pair were 3-0 in their bid to qualify for the final regular season NORCECA tournament. Their closest match was in the semifinal against Adam Roberts and Ed Ratledge, who took the match to three sets, 21-11, 16-21, 15-12. In the final, Doherty and Mayer dispatched Mark Burik and Stafford Slick, 21-18, 21-16.
For third, both the men’s and women’s brackets saw forfeits that gave the wins to Vanzwieten/DiCello and Theo Brunner/Billy Allen.
Following the St. Lucia tournament Oct. 14-16, the NORCECA Continental Tour concludes Nov. 25-27 in Trinidad & Tobago.
