COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 19, 2025) – The U.S. Women’s National Team swept Puerto Rico 25-22, 25-21, 25-13 to finish first in pool play at the NORCECA Final Six in Guadalajara, Mexico.

As the first-place finisher, the U.S. (5-0) will play the fourth-place finisher on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. MT in the semifinals.

Against Puerto Rico, the U.S. dominated at the net once again, 12 blocks to five. The U.S. also had an advantage in kills (40-36) and aces (4-3). Puerto Rico scored just 12 points off of U.S. errors while giving up 19. Setter Ella Powell led the U.S. offense to a .320 hitting percentage.

Sami Francis and Claire Chaussee each had 12 points in the win, with Francis scoring on eight kills and four blocks and Chaussee with nine kills, two blocks and an ace.

Skylar Fields had 10 kills, and Emily Thater shared the team lead with four blocks and added four kills and an ace. Norah Sis had four kills and an ace; Powell had one kill, two blocks and an ace; Jaali Winters had three kills, and Kendall Kipp had a kill.

Powell led the U.S. with 13 digs while libero Elena Oglivie had 12 digs. Sis had 10 successful receptions.

In set one, Puerto Rico kept a slim lead through the first half, leading by as many as four, 16-12. The U.S. cut it to two on a Chaussee kill and Puerto Rico error. With Puerto Rico up 17-14, the U.S. used a Kipp kill, Thater block and another Puerto Rico error to tie, 17-17. The U.S. finally took the lead, 20-19 on an attack error from Puerto Rico, and a kill from Fields and Francis block stretched the lead to 22-19.

Puerto Rico bounced back with two points to close the gap to one again, but the U.S. kept the pressure on, finishing the set 25-22 on a Francis kill.

Puerto Rico held the lead early in set two as well, until a Chaussee kill and Thater block broke an 11-11 tie for 13-11. After Puerto Rico scored, the U.S. scored three straight to extend the lead to 16-12. Puerto Rico closed the gap to one again at 18-17, but two consecutive Chaussee kills gave the U.S. a 20-17 lead. The two teams battled for the next few points until a Francis kill and Powell ace on set point gave the U.S. a 2-0 lead.

Set three was all USA as they used a five-point run to open up a nine-point lead at 16-7. Puerto Rico never moved closer, and the U.S. finished the match 25-13.
