Summer vacation is almost here and it’s the perfect time to get the family to an outdoor activity together. The USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships, May 11-13 in Hermosa Beach, California, is a prime opportunity to catch a game and some California sun.

A DAY OUTSIDE IS A DAY WELL SPENT
One of the best assets of beach volleyball is its location. Outside on sandy beaches, spectacular views and for the Collegiate Beach Championships, remarkable California weather. The tournament starts around 8 a.m., May 11-13 and ends around 5 p.m. PT each day. A trip to Hermosa Beach is only getting sweeter!

IT’S FREE
Who said daycations have to cost money? Whether you stay for one hour or nine, you’ll find the beach volleyball atmosphere as a trip well spent (pun intended).

COLLEGE ATHLETES AT THEIR BEST
The Collegiate Beach Championships will draw women’s and men’s athletes from 22 schools around the country. Whether you’re visiting, or a California local, chances are you and your kids will find a team to root for all weekend.

IT’S A TEAM USA TRIALS EVENT
There are four events in the 2017 Team USA Summer Champions Series – Beach volleyball, diving, swimming and track & field. California will host two of the four, with the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Sacramento June 23-25. It’s a big deal for beach volleyball because the top men’s and women’s team from the tournament will earn a spot on a USA Volleyball collegiate beach national team!

LOCAL OR NOT, YOU CAN WATCH
If you can’t make it to Hermosa Beach Pier, you can tune in to the women’s final live on NBCSN, May 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. ET. The men’s final will air on tape delay immediately after the women wrap. You can still enjoy a day of playing volleyball with the family at a park, then tune in to the broadcast to cap your day of fun.

HERMOSA BEACH PIER IS PRETTY ACCESSIBLE
If you’re tugging the kiddos along, or perhaps wanting to skip trucking through sand, no worries in Hermosa. The pier and its boardwalk make the experience of shops, restaurants and beach volleyball accessible. This event will also provide disabled seating located inside the championship court venue.

IT’S THE PERFECT LOW-COMMITMENT EVENT TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE FOR
There’s not much planning you need to do in order to watch the Collegiate Beach Championships. No tickets to buy, plenty of food options next door and it runs all day. Since the event starts on a Thursday (May 11-13), you can check it out on your lunch break and then bring the family over when you’re out of work and school! Saturday’s finals are the perfect early afternoon activity to hit up, ending before anyone’s afternoon nap.
