COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 15, 2018) – The U.S. Women got off to a fast start at the Sitting Volleyball World Championships, defeating Hungary, 25-7, 25-3, 25-8 on Sunday in Arnhem, Netherlands.

The U.S. Women (1-0) will continue pool play at 1 p.m. ET on Monday against Russia (1-0).

The U.S. serving was key on Sunday as it scored on 25 aces and made only two service errors. Outside hitter Monique Burkland led the way with six aces. Opposites Heather Erickson and Jillian Williams each had four.

Hungary finished with three aces. The U.S. also led in blocks (10-4) and kills (31-4).

Middle blocker Nicky Nieves led the U.S. in scoring with 13 points on eight kills, two blocks and three aces. Middle blocker Lora Webster and Erickson each finished with 10 points.
