Dr. Cecile Reynaud | 2020 Bertha H. Lucas All-Time Great Coach | Pioneer
Dr. Cecile Reynaud spent 26 seasons as head coach at Florida State until her retirement in 2001, yet was a coaching mentor for so many outside of the Seminole program.
Cecile, who accepted the head coach position at Florida State at age 22, posted a 635-326 record with the Seminoles, which ranked ninth all-time in NCAA Division I victories at the time of her retirement. Her teams claimed six Metro Conference Championships, one ACC title and competed in 10 NCAA Tournaments. In her final season, the Seminoles reached the ACC Championship match. Cecile earned conference Coach of the Year honors four times during her career.
Cecile has lent her skills to USA Volleyball on many occasions. She has been a member of the USA Volleyball’s Coaching Accreditation Program teaching cadre since 1988. Cecile has served on USA Volleyball’s Board of Directors for 19 total years and is currently serving as its chair.
Cecile served as coach for the 2009 and 2010 U.S. Girls’ Youth Continental Teams that competed in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. In 1983, she coached the 1983 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team and the U.S. World University Games Team.
Internationally, Cecile was an FIVB instructor from 1999 to 2006 after serving as the deputy competition manager for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She was co-editor of “The Volleyball Coaching Bible” that came out in 2002. Cecile has been a technical consultant for two Power Volleyball films and has co-authored numerous articles pertaining to women’s athletics.
Cecile served as president of the American Volleyball Coaches Association from 1989-1990. She later served as AVCA’s education and publication representative for over a decade starting in 2006.
