OFFICIAL STATISTICS

“It was good to see more guys on our roster,” said U.S. Head Coach Charlie Sullivan, who started only two players – middle blocker Kaumana Carreira and libero Kellen Larson – that he started on Monday. “Costa Rica made it extremely difficult. They started off without giving us any errors, forcing us to execute. We’re trying to find our rhythm, our team identity.”

Outside hitter Victor Loiola led all scorers with 15 points on a match-high 13 kills (.500), one block and one ace.

“We came out a little flat but picked up as a team to get better and better,” Loiola said. “We kept firing and everything came together. Everybody was happy on and off the court; I believe that’s our best skill.”

Outside hitter Quinn Bishop added 14 points on nine kills, one block and two aces. Opposite Jameson Vaccaro totaled nine points on four kills, a match-high four blocks and one ace.

Setter Caleb Blanchette scored five points on two kills, two blocks and one ace. He set the team to a .333 hitting efficiency.

Middles Reed Wainwright, Tristan Whitfield and Cairrera each scored four points and each started two of the three sets. Wainwright scored on four kills. Whitfield scored on three kills and one ace. Cairrera had two blocks and two kills.

Opposite Finn Kearney played as a substitute and scored three points on three kills.

Libero Kellen Larson was credited with 12 excellent receptions and nine digs.
