U.S. Women's National Team celebrates at the Pan Am Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 6, 2023) – The U.S. Women’s Team competing at the Pan American Cup opened the tournament Sunday with a sweep (25-12, 25-12, 25-17) of Costa Rica in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Women will play Peru at 1 p.m. PT on Monday.


The U.S. Women led Costa Rica in kills (51-23), blocks (9-2) and aces (5-1). The U.S. scored 10 points on Costa Rica’s errors and gave up 15.

“We definitely had some jitters when we started the first set, so it was nice to get settled,” Head Coach Brad Rostratter told NORCECA. “We really were just focused on ourselves and how we’re playing and us. In continuity together. And that’s our focus throughout.”

Opposite Taylor Mims led all scorers with 17 points on 13 kills (.479 hitting efficiency) and a match-high four blocks. Outside hitter Logan Eggleston added 14 points on 13 kills and one ace.

Middle blocker Danielle Hart scored 13 points on eight kills (.667), three blocks and two aces.

Setter Sydney Hilley set the team to a .426 hitting efficiency and scored one point on a kill. Libero Zoe Fleck was credited with 12 digs and three successful receptions. Outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller led the team in successful receptions with 10.

Outside hitter Simone Lee started the first two sets and scored eight points on seven kills and one block. Nuneviller totaled seven points on four kills, two aces and one block.

Middle blocker Serena Gray scored five points on five kills.
