COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 27, 2022) – SportsTravel Magazine honored the 2022 USA Volleyball Salt Lake City Showdown with its Best New Event Award on Tuesday night during the TEAMS ’22 Conference & Expo in Oklahoma City.

SportsTravel Magazine annually presents the SportsTravel Awards, which are nominated and voted on by the readers of SportsTravel. The 2022 awards included events that occurred or venues that opened between Aug. 1, 2021 and July 31, 2022.

The inaugural Salt Lake City Showdown Girls Junior National Qualifier ran over two weekends in March at the Salt Palace Convention Center, creating an estimated economic impact of more than $15 million with 30,000 attendees. It was the largest volleyball tournament ever hosted in Utah.

The Salt Lake City Showdown is one of 12 qualifiers around the country for the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship and one of 16 qualifiers for the USA Volleyball Girls 18s Junior National Championship.

In 2023, the Showdown will run over three weekends: Jan. 27-29 (18s); April 8-10 (11-12s, 16-17s) and April 14-16 (13-15s).
