COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 13, 2024) – The U.S. Women’s National Team opens the 2024 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) on May 15-19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a roster of 11 veterans and three newcomers to the tournament.

Volleyball Nations League is the world’s premier annual international indoor volleyball tournament. The top 16 teams in the world play four matches a week for three weeks of preliminary competition. The top eight teams at the end of the preliminaries will go to the Final Round.

The roster for week 1 includes four Olympic gold medalists from the 2020 Tokyo Games: setter Jordyn Poulter, libero Justine Wong-Orantes, outside hitter Jordan Larson and middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu.

Other VNL veterans on the roster are setter Lauren Carlini, outside hitters Ali Frantti, Avery Skinner and Sarah Wilhite Parsons, opposite Danielle Cuttino and middle blockers Brionne Butler and Anna Stevenson Hall.

The three athletes making their VNL debuts are libero Zoe Fleck, outside hitter Madi Skinner and middle blocker Kayla Haneline.

Head Coach Karch Kiraly is a three-time Olympian and three-time gold medalist as a player who took over as head coach in 2013.

Kiraly’s first assistant is Tama Miyashiro, who won a silver medal as a libero with the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. The second assistants will be Marv Dunphy, Alfee Reft and Erin Virtue.

The U.S. Women are the reigning Olympic champions and ranked No. 2 in the world. They have won the VNL three times (2018, ’19, ’21) since its inception in 2018. In 2023, they finished fourth overall.

The U.S. Women will play matches against Thailand (No. 13 in the world), China (No. 6), Brazil (No. 3) and Dominican Republic (No. 8) in Rio.
