COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 17, 2024) – USA Volleyball and its National Team Development Program are happy to announce the 21 athletes on the 2024 U.S. Men’s U21 National Team.
The team will train on June 1-8 at the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Twelve athletes will be selected to compete at the 2021 NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship on June 9-16 in Nogales, Senora, Mexico.
The event is a qualifier for the 2025 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.
Fourteen players on the team return from one of the two 2023 Boys U19 rosters: setters Tread Rosenthal and Trent Taliaferro, liberos Roan Alviar and Kellen Larson, outside hitters Sterling Foley, Cole Hartke, Sean Kelly, Victor Loiola and Marek Turner, opposite Finn Kearney and middle blockers Josh Aruya, Tre Jordan, Tristan Whitfield and Parker Tomkinson.
The 2023 U.S. Boys U19 Team won the NORCECA Pan American Cup and finished fourth at the FIVB World Championship, the best U.S. finish ever.
The 2023 U.S. Men’s U21 Team took silver at the NORCECA Pan American Cup and finished 13th at the FIVB World Championship.
Players who were not on a 2023 roster are setter Caleb Blanchette, outside hitters Justin Todd and Jameson Vaccaro, middle blockers Jackson Cryst and Aidan Klein and opposites Braydon Savitski-Lynde and Kainoa Wade. Blanchette, Vaccaro and Cryst were on the 2022 Boys U19 roster .
John Hawks, men’s head coach at Loyola of Chicago, will serve as the U.S. Men’s U21 head coach assisted by Donan Cruz of Ball State and Matthew Pollock of Pepperdine.
“We have assembled a dynamic staff, and I can’t wait to be in the gym training alongside them,” Hawks said. “The men we have chosen reflect the best this age group has to offer in the United States. I am confident that we will make the volleyball community proud as we take on the challenge of qualifying for next summer’s world championship.”
