COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 6, 2025) – The U.S. Girls U17 National Team finished undefeated in pool play without dropping a single set after sweeping Cuba, 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-17) Thursday at the NORCECA U17 Continental Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The U.S. (3-0) will have a day off before picking back up on Saturday, November 8 at 4 p.m. PT for the semifinal round.

The U.S. dominated the stat lines, leading Cuba in kills (38-13), blocks (11-2) and aces (17-5).

The U.S. had the top six point scorers in the match. Lexi Coleman led the way with 11 points on seven kills, one block and three aces. Coleman was one of three U.S. players with three aces, the other two being MC Crutcher and Madlen Gloessner. Maya Ogbogu followed up with 10 points on eight kills, one block and one ace.

Crutcher and Madison Middleton each had seven points, and Mckenzie Andrews and Mesa Jameson each had six points to round out the top six scorers.

Setter Ellie Enger had four points on two kills and two aces. Libero Bella Osborn led the U.S. with 16 digs.

“I am really proud of us because Cuba is a really good blocking team,” said Ogbodu. “They hit really high over the net and I think we just used that to our advantage, hitting smart shots and utilizing the block. I’m also really proud of our perseverance throughout the match. I felt like we never gave up and we fought for every single point.”

In set one, the U.S. took a commanding 12-3 lead after an eight point serving run from Gloessner which included three aces. Another serving run, this time for five straight points that included a pair of aces from Enger, closed the set, 25-11.

The U.S. made nearly a full lineup switch to start set two with middle blocker Mckenzie Andrews being the only player who started the previous set. Cuba took an early 10-5 lead, however the U.S. quickly tied it back up at 11-11, thanks in large part to three aces from Crutcher. The set stayed close for a few more points but a 12 point run that included two blocks from Johnson, closed the set and gave the U.S. a 2-0 match lead.

The U.S. went back to their lineup from set one with the exception of middle blocker Madison Middleton staying in from the previous set. The U.S. had a smoother starter to set three taking advantage of some errors from Cuba to jumped ahead 7-4 early on. Cuba did not go away easy keeping it within a point or two, and even taking a 16-14 lead later in the set. The U.S. was able to tie it up 16-16 after an ace from Jameson and from there only gave up one more point to Cuba to finish up the sweep.
