COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 9, 2025) – The U.S. Girls U17 National Team captured gold after sweeping Mexico in the final 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-23) Sunday at the NORCECA U17 Continental Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The first-ever U.S. Girls U17 National Team finished a historic debut undefeated (5-0) and never dropped a set through the tournament.

The U.S. led Mexico in kills (43-19). The two were even in blocking (5-5) and Mexico led from the serving line (9-6).

Outside hitter Maya Ogbogu was the match leader in points with 21 on 18 kills, one block and two aces. Outside hitter and captain Lexi Coleman followed with 11 points on nine kills, one block and one ace.

Middle blocker Madlen Gloessner had seven points on six kills and one ace. Opposite Mesa Jameson and middle blocker Madison Middleton shared identical stat lines, each with four points on three kills and one block. Outside hitter Julia Masselink had three points on two kills and one block. Setter Ellie Enger had two aces while leading the offense on 53 total attempts. Libero Bella Osborn had a match-high 19 digs.

Early in set one, Mexico took advantage of errors on the U.S. side and tacked on an ace to take a 3-0 lead. The U.S. settled in and took their first lead in the set, 6-5, after a kill from Gloessner. The two teams traded leads until the U.S. scored three straight points on two Mexico errors and a Jameson kill for a 20-17 lead. The U.S. captured set point with a kill from Ogbogu on a long rally and would close out the set on the following point, 25-20.

The U.S. started set two much better than the previous, this time taking their own 3-0 lead. Mexico got within one point early in the set at 5-4, but the U.S. never gave up the lead through the entire set. Ogbogu led the way for the U.S. in set two with eight points on seven kills and an ace, which closed out the set for the U.S. Coleman followed up with four points on three kills and an ace of her own.

Mexico had a stronger start in set three, but the U.S. began to take over once tying it up, 3-3, on an Enger ace. The U.S. scored seven straight points led by Masselink, Ogbogu and Gloessner who each had two points in that run. Mexico tied the set up, 20-20, after a six point run. A block from Coleman ended the run and give the U.S. the lead back. Mexico tied it back up, 22-22, but that would be the last time. Another kill from Ogbogu captured the gold for the U.S. in its fifth sweep of the tournament.
