COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 8, 2025) – The U.S. Girls U17 National Team is heading the final after sweeping Puerto Rico, 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-11) Saturday at the NORCECA U17 Continental Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The U.S. will play for the gold medal on Sunday, November 9 at 4 p.m. PT against the winner of the other semifinal between Dominican Republic and Mexico.

The U.S. held a 10-1 blocking advantage over Puerto Rico and a 9-2 advantage in service aces while only allowing 11 kills.

Middle blocker Madlen Gloessner was the high scorer for the U.S. She recorded 13 points on seven kills, four blocks and two aces.

“Hats off to Puerto Rico for working hard in the semifinals,” said Gloessner. “They pushed us to be our best today. I am really proud of the team for using what we learned in practice, and we really played together as one group.”

In support of Gloessner, outside hitters Maya Ogbogu and Lexi Coleman each contributed 12 points. Coleman had nine kills, a block and two aces. Ogbogu had ten kills, a block and an ace.There was plenty of scoring help throughout the rest of the lineup as well. Opposite/outside hitter Mesa Jameson had five kills and three blocks. Setter/Opposite Ellie Enger had three kills and two aces. Outside hitter/Opposite MC Crutcher had one kill and two aces. Outside hitter Julia Masselink had two kills and middle blocker Madison Middleton added a block and a kill.

The U.S. began the match slowly, falling behind early 4-1. They kicked into high gear to make it 5-5 on an Enger ace and a Gloessner kill. The U.S. then scored ten straight points to make it 15-5 and force a Puerto Rico timeout. The U.S. pulled away to take the first set 25-10. Gloessner led the way with 3 kills and 3 blocks.

The second set was a 3-0 start for the U.S. and it was an 8-2 run before the first timeout. It was all USA the rest of the way as they cruised to another 25-10 victory in set two. Ogbogu was the leader in the second frame with four kills and a block.

The final set began with another hot start and was 5-0 with an Ogbogu kill before the timeout by Puerto Rico. The U.S. went on a 10-5 run with two kills each by Coleman and Ogbogu before another timeout. The U.S. would allow only six more points from there, winning the final set 25-11 and completing the sweep
