(Las Vegas, Nev.) – Teams from Puerto Rico captured the two titles handed out Wednesday at the 2022 USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championship in Las Vegas, Nev.
It was the second of three championship days in Vegas. On Thursday, six titles will be handed out in the 17 and 18 divisions.
GVA Volleyball Academy (Puerto Rico) did not lose a set en route to the 12 Club title. In the final, GVA defeated Evolution 12 Elite (SCVA) 25-8, 25-20.
Head coach Eric Delgado Cerra said that a few players developed COVID in the last month, making practices difficult.
“We were incomplete in practices, but I think that we did a great job,” he said. “A lot of emotions, a lot of hard work, and it paid off.”
Two undefeated teams met up in the 13 Club final, and Torrimar 13-1 (Puerto Rico) and Club V 13 Black Robert (Intermountain) took the championship match to the limit.
The finale was a rematch of both teams’ first match of the tournament. In Monday’s meetup, Club V came out on top, 25-22, 20-25, 15-10.
But Torrimar had the upper hand in the final, winning another close battle, 25-23, 19-25, 15-12.
“It’s been a rollercoaster year,” Torrimar head coach Luis Mercado Canales said. “They worked hard for this.”
