U.S. Men Finish Ninth at U19 Beach World Championship

The U.S. beach teams of Grant Lamoureux/Blake Goodwin and Caleb Blanchette/Malachi Brewington completed their run at the 2024 U19 World University Championships in Shangluo, China with an exit in the Round of 16. The U19 Beach World Championships are an FIVB event comprised of 103 teams from 50 countries representing all five continental confederations. This year’s tournament is the 18th installment of the event which started in 2002.

Hughes/Cheng Place Fifth in Paris

The U.S. women’s beach team of Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng finished fifth at the Paris Olympics after dropping their quarterfinal match to the Swiss combination of Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner, 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) on Tuesday. The 2023 world champions ended the Olympics with a 4-1 record.

Kloth/Nuss Drop Heartbreaker in Paris Round of 16

The U.S. beach team of Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss came from behind late in both sets on Monday before falling to Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Canada in the Paris Round of 16, 2-0 (21-19, 21-18). Kloth/Nuss posted a 3-1 record in their first Olympic appearance and finished ninth.

Evans/Budinger End Olympic Run in Round of 16

The U.S. beach team of Miles Evans and Chase Budinger fell to the defending Olympic gold medalists Anders Mol and Christian Sørum of Norway, 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) in the Round of 16 in Paris on Monday. Evans/Budinger earned a pair of wins and placed ninth in their first Olympic appearance.

Hughes/Cheng Survive and Advance to Paris Quarters

The third-seeded U.S. beach team of Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng had all they could handle from 12th-seeded Valentina Gottardi and Marta Menegatti of Italy before coming away with a 2-1 (21-18, 17-21, 15-12) win in the Paris Round of 16 on Sunday.

Evans/Budinger Advance to Paris Round of 16 with “Lucky Loser” Win

Playing to stay alive in the Paris Olympics, the U.S. beach team of Miles Evans and Chase Budinger pulled out a 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) victory over Thomas Hodges and Zachery Schubert of Australia in the “Lucky Loser” round on Saturday.

Hughes/Cheng Win Pool, Advance to Round of 16 in Paris

The U.S. beach team of Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng defeated Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann of Germany, 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) in a matchup of undefeated teams to finish 3-0 in pool play on Friday. Both teams advanced to the Round of 16 at the Paris Olympics.

Evans/Budinger to Play Australia to Advance in Paris

Chase Budinger and Miles Evans dropped their final pool match to Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira of Spain 2-0 (21-18, 21-11) at Eiffel Tower Stadium on Friday. Budinger and Evans finish third in the pool and avoid outright elimination.

Kloth/Nuss Overcome 1st Set Loss, Rain Delay to Win Pool in Paris

The U.S. beach team of Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss rallied from one set down to finish 3-0 and finish first in Pool B with a 2-1 (15-21, 21-16, 15-12) two-hour win over Xue Chen and Xia Xinyi of China on Thursday. Kloth/Nuss advanced directly to the Round of 16, which begins on Sunday, Aug. 4.

Beach Athletes Taking Part in 2024 NTDP Summer Training Series

More than 100 girls and boys athletes are at Dockweiler Beach, Playa del Rey, California, on July 29-Aug. 1 for the 2024 Beach National Team Development Program Summer Training Series.
