The USA Way to Identify and Nurture Talent

In 2021, USA Volleyball launched the National Team Development Program (NTDP) as the pinnacle of player development for high-potential volleyball athletes from across the country. NTDP aims to provide top athletes more opportunities to develop within the USA Volleyball National Team system. The athlete-centered program prioritizes the health, well-being and overall development of each individual player. Athletes will have more opportunities to train and compete with and against the best athletes from across the country and learn from some of the best minds in the game.

NTDP programs are classified into age-group categories, starting with Girls Under-15 and Boys Under-16, with the oldest age groups for both genders being Under-26. The NTDP Training Series consists of national training programs held seasonally at various locations across the country for approximately the top 8-12 athletes per birth year. Athletes selected and invited are considered for selection to age-group national teams. In addition, regionalized events called NTDP Accelerators provide athletes nominated by clubs and regions with the opportunity to train against top competition from a more localized area.

Athletes are selected for the NTDP Training Series via the nationwide NTDP Scouting Network. Scouts from around the country have been chosen to identify athletes at qualifiers, showcases, championships and more across the United States. Athletes who are interested in being seen by the Beach Scouting Network should make sure they have a claimed account in VolleyballLife or they should create an account in VolleyballLife.

NTDP age-group national teams continue to achieve historic international outcomes. Through the NTDP’s Training Series and age-group National Team Trials, high-potential athletes have received training on themes that translate to success in the international game. They have also built a rapport with one another and with top coaches from across the country including staff from USA Volleyball’s age-group national teams.

Since 2021, USA Volleyball’s age-group national teams have brought home nine medals from international competitions. Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple brought home gold from the 2021 FIVB U19 Beach World Championships, while the pair of Ashley Pater and Myriah Massey earned silver at the 2023 FIVB U19 Beach World Championships. Two men’s and two women’s pairs secured gold and bronze medals at the 2022 NORCECA U23 Beach Championships.

In 2023, one men’s pair brought home silver and the two women’s pairs brought home silver and bronze from the NORCECA U23 Beach Tour. Over the past three years, USA Volleyball has had 13 pairs qualify for the main draw at U19 and U21 FIVB Beach World Championships.
