3Attend a clinicAttend one Officials’ Clinic. The regional clinic is mandatory for anyone officiating SCSN tournaments, and in-person attendance is required for re-certification.
No assignments are made to anyone who has not completed all SportsEngine registration and SCSN payments, finished the SafeSport refresher module, and attended the Officials’ Clinic.

Before you can work this seasonThree things must be complete: your USA Volleyball membership, your SafeSport training, and your background screening.Start them early. SafeSport is on a separate site and has to be connected to your SportsEngine profile before you can begin it, and a background screening takes time to come back — new officials need theirs finished before an on-court evaluation.
On the day
- Bring a laptop or iPad for taking notes, and water. No food or snacks are provided.
- Wear a collared shirt with neat trousers or a skirt. Sneakers are fine. No tank tops, nothing strapless, no flip flops.
- Be on time. Doors close at the start time — arriving after that means registering for a later clinic.
- No walk-ups. Everyone attending must be registered, including anyone you bring.
Required USAV ModulesEvery official completes the USAV courses matched to their experience level in the Volleyball Academy, reached from your SportsEngine profile.
Due December 31, 2026. Complete all assigned courses by the deadline.
New OfficialsAfter your clinic, every new SCSN official completes one day of on-court training alongside a veteran official before being assigned to matches.
On-court training
- Required for everyone new to SCSN. No waivers are granted, even for officials with previous experience — this is so all officials learn SCSN procedures and protocols.
- You must be eligible in SportsEngine first: SafeSport, background screening, and all modules in the New Provisional Officials Training (1–3 years) bundle in the USAV Volleyball Academy.
- One day, six matches, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Training matches are unpaid, and a second training day is not available.
- SCSN schedules you from the availability you submit on the Google Form. Do not email to say you are ready — your progress is visible in the system.
- You will be paired with a veteran official and must be able to work independently by the end of the day.
Certification deadline: January 31. All requirements must be completed by January 31. Officials who do not finish by then will not be certified for the season.

Junior Officials (16–17)Officials aged 16 and 17 register through the Junior Officials Program, then complete the same requirements and clinic as everyone else.
Eligibility
- Must be at least 16 years old — minimum, no exceptions.
- Coaches may officiate.
- SafeSport and a background check are required if you are 18, or turning 18 during the club season.
Advancing to RegionalProvisional officials advance to Regional status through an SCSN Regional Certification Camp, where evaluators observe you and give formal feedback.
Deadline to request a Regional upgrade: end of day November 22, 2026.
