Junior National Official
The pathway from Regional to Junior National certification, and the two routes you can take.
Before You Apply

For Regional officials who have worked with SCSN for at least one year and are ready to pursue the next certification level.

USAV experience requirementComplete one of the following combinations, along with USAV-sponsored training camps:

  • Two USAV national qualifiers and one national championship
  • One USAV national qualifier and two national championships
  • Three USAV national championships

This can take several years. Candidate selection considers officiating skill, commitment to SCSN and USAV, and time in the program.
Choose Your Path

Two routes to Junior National certification. Path 1 develops you inside the SCSN program first; Path 2 goes straight to USAV.

Path 1 · SCSN Junior National Program

2Attend an SCSN Advanced CampThe SCSN Ratings Committee selects eight applicants. Selected officials must attend one of the Advanced Camps to remain eligible for consideration that year. The camps provide mentoring, training, observation, and feedback.
3Receive the committee decisionAfter the camps the Ratings Committee will tell you one of two outcomes:

  • Proceed with the USAV Junior National application for the current year. Do not book travel until USAV accepts you as a candidate.
  • Continue mentoring and development, then apply to the SCSN program again next year.

4Apply to USAVIf SCSN recommends you for the current year, follow the USAV candidate instructions and submit by April 1.USAV candidate instructions
5Mentoring and coachingIf SCSN recommends you move forward, you will receive mentoring and coaching throughout the season at SCSN events.
Path 2 · Apply Directly to USAV

Officials who believe they are ready may bypass the SCSN Junior National Program and apply directly to USAV. This option does not include regional mentoring or coaching.

After USAV Accepts You

These apply whichever path you took.

  • Accepted candidates are expected to attend the Girls Junior National Championship (GJNC), held in late June or July.
  • If you cannot attend GJNC, notify SCSN immediately. Do not accept candidacy if you know you will be unable to attend.
  • Book travel only after USAV confirms you as a Junior National candidate, then continue with the process USAV sets out.
