SCSN Uniforms and Equipment

Unless marked optional, these items are required.

• Navy blue slacks / dress pants
• Navy blue or black leather belt
• All-white leather gym shoes (logo may have color)
• White socks (not ankle length)
• Certified Volleyball Officials shirt(s) — only official monogrammed shirts allowed
• Cyan blue shirt, long or short sleeve (default; also the SoCal high-school default)
• White shirt, long or short sleeve (recommended, optional)
• Gray shirt, long or short sleeve (recommended, optional)
• Certified white official monogrammed sweater (optional)

Navy “golf style” shorts are allowed at regional-only events. USA Volleyball-approved polos, jackets, and sweaters may also be worn.

• Small plain navy or black gear bag (fits everything below)
• Black or white pea-less whistle (FOX40 or similar) with matching lanyard
• Digital watch / timing device that counts seconds
• Current USAV rulebook (hard copy or digital PDF)
• Small ball pump
• Pressure gauge able to measure 4.2–4.6 psi
• Net measuring chain (suitable for women’s, men’s, and juniors’ heights)
• Tossing coin (~silver-dollar size, distinct heads/tails)
• Red and yellow sanction cards with case
• Red line-judge flags (12×12″ to 16×16″)
• A good set of ear plugs (recommended)

• Whistle and lanyard should match; a cushioned (rubber) mouth grip is nice. Keep a spare whistle or two.
• Some manufacturers make a combination pump/gauge.
• A digital watch with a timer or countdown is required.
• USAV rulebooks are provided to SCSN members through registration/dues and are also on the USAV Rulebooks page.
• Comfortable, long-lasting shoes are essential for every assignment.

SCSN does not require specific vendors for most items — but only a couple of vendors are licensed to sell the official Certified Volleyball Officials shirts and outerwear, so those must be purchased from a licensed vendor. Cheaper brands wear out faster; spending a bit more upfront is often more cost-effective.
