U.S. Men Reverse Sweep Canada at 2026 NORCECA Final Six

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 25, 2026) – The U.S. Men’s National Team battled back from a two-set deficit to defeat Canada, 3-2 (17-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-11) and move to 3-0 at the 2026 NORCECA Final Six on Tuesday in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

The U.S. will next face the Dominican Republic tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT.

The U.S. recorded one more kill, 55-54, and finished with a 10-7 advantage in blocks. Canada led 9-3 in service aces, but the U.S. served three of the four aces in the fifth set.

Outside hitter Jacob Pasteur led the U.S. with 17 kills. Outside Sean Kelly totaled 15 points on 13 kills and two fifth-set aces. Middle Parker Tomkinson finished with eight blocks, one more than the entire Canada team, and five kills for 13 points. Opposite Kainoa Wade entered the match in the third set with 10 points on eight kills, one block and one ace. Middle blocker Cameron Thorne finished with nine points on eight kills and a block.

Libero Troy Gooch recorded a double-double with 15 excellent receptions and 10 digs. Kelly finished with seven digs and Parkinson added six. Opposite Kyle Hobus contributed three points and outside Patrick Rogers added a kill. Setter Michael Wright led the U.S. offense to a .297 hitting efficiency percentage. Libero Jacob Reilly added three excellent receptions.

For the second match in a row, Tomkinson started with a block. A Thorne kill put the U.S. ahead 5-2. Trailing 8-6, Canada went on a four-point run to move ahead by two. A Rogers kill pulled the U.S. within a point, 13-12, but Canada used a 5-2 stretch to extend its lead to four. A Tomkinson kill cut the lead to 18-15, before Canada finished the set on a 7-2 run. Pasteur delivered four kills and Tomkinson scored four points on three kills and a block.

A Tomkinson block gave the U.S. its last lead of the second set, 9-8. Canada used a 5-1 run to take a three-point lead. A Kelly kill on a rally that featured strong digs from him and Rosenthal that tied the set at 13. Two Thorne kills tied the set (14-14 and 16-16) and a Pasteur kill tied the set at 17. Canada scored the next four points to take the lead for good. A Tomkinson kill and two Canada hitting errors cut the deficit to one point, 21-20, but Canada defended an attack off an overpass and scored four of the last six points to take a 2-0 match lead and earn its fifth consecutive set win over the U.S. dating back to the Pan American Cup. Pasteur produced five kills.

Three Wade kills and a Tomkinson block helped the U.S. take a 6-2 lead in the third set. Kelly put a ball straight down and Pasteur followed with a kill to put the U.S. ahead 10-4. A Wade kill and another Tomkinson block pushed the margin to seven points, 13-6, and forced a Canada timeout. The U.S. doubled up the lead, 14-7, on Tomkinson’s third block of the set. Canada ran off the next four points to cut the lead to three and prompt a U.S. timeout and then continued the run with two more points to pull within a point, 14-13. Pasteur delivered back-to-back kills to put the U.S. back up by three. Gooch played a serve that clipped the net leading to a Wade kill off the block for a 19-16 advantage. Scrambling play from Gooch, Pasteur and Wade kept a rally alive that ended with a Canada error for a 21-17 U.S. lead. Pasteur tooled the block for a 23-20 lead and a Wright dig led to a Gooch set and Kelly kill off the block to give the U.S. set point. Two points later, Kelly ended the set with a kill. Wade delivered six kills and Pasteur added five.

The U.S. scored the first point of the fourth set, its last lead until taking a 12-11 lead. A Kelly kill and back-to-back blocks from Tomkinson and Wade evened the score at 10 apiece. After Canada scored the next point, the U.S. scored the next three points to take its first two-point advantage of the set, 13-11, with Kelly and Tomkinson each delivering kills. The teams traded service errors before a Wade kill put the U.S. up by three, 15-12. The lead grew to four, 17-13, on a Thorne kill and Canada hitting error. A Pasteur kill and Canada hitting error increased the margin to five points, 21-16. Tomkinson’s seventh block put the U.S. up 22-17, and a Kelly kill made the score 23-18. A service error and hitting error sent the match to a fifth set. Kelly posted five kills in the set.

Wade crushed a serve off the Canada center back defender for a 4-2 U.S. lead in the fifth set, forcing an early timeout. Wade’s next serve also gave Canada trouble and Kelly ended up scoring to raise the lead to three points. Thorne scored off the block for a 6-3 lead. Kelly served back-to-back aces to put the U.S. up 8-3. A scrambling defensive play helped Canada pull within three points, 8-5. A Thorne kill gave the U.S. a 9-6 lead but Canada scored the next two points to pull within a point, 9-8. A service error and Tomkinson block restored the three-point lead. Reilly played a serve that hit the net, which led to a Pasteur swing that Canada put back over the net, which Thorne put down to set up match point, 14-11. After a Canada timeout, the U.S. defended two attacks before Pasteur finished the match with his 17th kill. Kelly scored four points on two kills and two aces with Thorne adding three kills.
