COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 10, 2025) – It was a strange weekend of men’s college volleyball with nearly all of your top five pairs having to put another mark in the L column. Whether the losses were a biproduct of spring break, a long season, or just good competition, it doesn’t shake up our rankings too much. This week, UCI and Hawaii flip-flop once more at No. 4 and 5. In DIII, Springfield and Southern Virginia trade places at No. 2 and No. 3 with the regular season at its conclusion.
The college roundup showcases some of the key matches of the week while also highlighting athletes who are part of the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program.

Long Beach picked up two wins home and away vs. Santa Barbara (3-1, 3-0) at the end of last week and now prepares to face No. 4 Hawaii on the road in a highlight matchup this weekend between top five squads and Big West rivals.

USA Volleyball National Team Development Program/LBSU Players
DiAeris McRaven was on the 2024 Men’s National Team that won gold at NORCECA Final 6 and silver at the 2024 NORCECA Pan Am Cup. He had three kills and three blocks vs. UCSB (Fri.).
Ben Braun was on the 2024 Men’s National Team that won gold at NORCECA Final 6 and silver at the 2024 NORCECA Pan Am Cup. He was also a member of the 2024 Collegiate National Team and the 2023 Beach Collegiate National Team. He had three kills and six blocks vs UCSB (Fri.)
Kellen Larson was on the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship and was on the Boys U19 National Teams in 2023 and 2022 that won gold medals at the U19 Pan Am Cup. He was named Big West defensive player of the week this week. He had one kill, one assist and nine digs vs. UCSB (Fri.).
Long Beach has eight more members with NTDP connections.
Dane Hillis was a member of the 2023 U21 National Team that took silver at the Pan Am Cup and played on the 2022 U21 National Team that won gold at the Pan Am Cup. Ford Harman was a member of the 2023 Beach U19 National Team. Island Doty was a member of the 2023 Men’s U21 National Team. Chris Connelly was on the U21 National Team in 2023 and 2022 and the U19 National Team in 2021 and 2020. Isaiah Preuitt was on the 2023 U19 National Team that took gold at the NORCECA U19 Pan Am Cup. Sebastiano Sani was on the 2023 U19 National Team that placed fourth at the 2023 U19 World Championships and took gold at the NORCECA U19 Pan Am Cup. Sebastian Rodriguez was a member of the 2023 Beach U23 National Team and the 2023 Beach Collegiate National Team. Nato Dickinson was a member of the Beach Collegiate National Team in 2024 and 2023 and competed at the 2024 Beach World University Championship.
UCLA split with GCU over the weekend in two matches where the Lopes fought hard. GCU bested UCLA 3-0 in Friday’s match, and the Bruins had to rally behind a season-high 19 kills from Cooper Robinson to win the fifth set of Saturday’s match. It won’t get any easier as they welcome in a scrappy BYU squad (No. 7) for two matches at Pauley Pavilion this weekend. Saturday’s match will be the first time that men’s volleyball is shown on the Big 10 Network main channel.

USA Volleyball National Team Development Program/UCLA Players
Andrew Rowan was a member of the 2023 NORCECA Pan Am Cup Final Six team that won gold. He was also on the 2022 U21 National Team that won gold at the Pan American Cup. He had five kills, 47 assists, one ace, two blocks and six digs vs. GCU (Sat.).
Cooper Robinson was on the 2024 Men’s National Team that won gold at NORCECA Final 6 and silver at the 2024 NORCECA Pan Am Cup. He had 19 kills, one assist, three aces, two blocks and eight digs vs. GCU (Sat.).
Zach Rama was on the 2024 Men’s National Team that won gold at NORCECA Final 6 and silver at the 2024 NORCECA Pan Am Cup. He was also on the 2023 Men’s U21 National Team that took home silver at the 2023 U21 Pan American Cup. He had 11 kills, one assist, one ace, one block and six digs vs. GCU (Sat.)
Cameron Thorne was a member of the 2024 Collegiate National Team. He had seven kills, two aces, and three blocks vs. GCU (Sat.).
Sean Kelly was on the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship. He was also a member of the U19 Boys teams that won gold at the NORCECA Pan Am Cup in 2023 and 2022. He had 10 kills, one assist, one ace, three blocks, and eight digs vs. GCU (Sat.).
Sean McQuiggan was a member of the 2024 Collegiate National Team. He had six kills, one block and one dig vs. GCU (Sat).
UCLA has three more players on the roster with NTDP connections.
Kahale Clini was a member of the 2023 Boys U19 NORCECA Continental Championship Team. Trent Taliaferro was on the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that took gold at the U21 NORCECA Continental Championship and the 2023 Boys U19 National Team that competed at the FIVB World Championship and took gold at the NORCECA U19 Pan Am Cup. Micah Wong Diallo was on the 2024 Men’s National Team that won gold at NORCECA Final 6. He was also a member of the 2024 Collegiate National Team and the Men’s U21 National Team that took home silver at the 2023 U21 Pan American Cup.
With Dillon Klein sidelined due to injury, USC faltered in its second match with Pepperdine and split the two-match series. Prior to the loss, the Trojans reached a double digit win streak for the first time since 2012. The good news is Klein is expected to return to the lineup this weekend vs. Stanford.

USA Volleyball National Team Development Program/USC
Caleb Blanchette has been a member of the Beach U19 National Team since 2022. He was also on the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the 2024 NORCECA Championship and the 2022 Boys U19 Pan Am Cup team that won gold. He had 27 assists, three blocks and four digs vs. Pepperdine (Sat.). He is No. 1 in the nation in assists per set (11.08).
Sterling Foley was a member of the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship. He was Named MVP and Best Spiker. He was also a member of the Boys U19 National Team in 2022 and 2023. He had 12 kills, one assist, two aces, two blocks, and seven digs vs. Pepperdine (Sat.).
Parker Tomkinson was a member of the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship. He was also a member of the 2023 Boys U19 NORCECA Continental Championship Team. He is No. 8 in the nation in blocks per set (1.137). He had eight kills, two assists, and six blocks vs. Pepperdine (Sat.)
Dillon Klein was a member of the 2024 Men’s Collegiate National Team and the 2023 Men’s U21 National Team. He had six kills, three assist, one block and six digs vs. Pepperdine (Thurs.).
Markus Olsson was a member of the 2023 Men’s U21 National Team. He had one kill, one block and one dig vs. Pepperdine (Sat.)
Hawaii also had a surprising loss on the weekend, dropping the first of two matches 0-3 to CSUN in Northridge. Even so, the Rainbow Warriors move back up to No. 4 ahead of the highly anticipated meeting with No. 1 Long Beach this weekend.

USA Volleyball National Team Development Program/Hawaii
Tread Rosenthal was a member of the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship. He was also on the 2023 U19 National Team that placed fourth at the U19 World Championships and won gold at the NORCECA U19 Pan Am Cup. He had four kills, 29 assists, one ace and two digs vs. CSUN (Sat.). He is No. 2 in the nation in assists per set (10.86).
Justin Todd was a member of the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team. He had four kills, one assist, one ace, three blocks and three digs vs. CSUN (Sat.)
Finn Kearney was a member of the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team that won gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship and the Boys U19 National Team in 2023 and 2022. He had two aces vs. CSUN (Sat.)
Kainoa Wade was a member of the 2024 Men’s U21 National Team.
The Anteaters drop back down to No. 5 after the team’s sixth loss of the season came at the hands of UCSD on the road last weekend. UCI got back on track to split the series and will face more Big West competition in UCSB and CSUN to end the season.

Nolan Flexen 2024 Men’s National Team that won gold at NORCECA Final 6 and silver at the 2024 NORCECA Pan Am Cup. He had 13 kills, one ace, one assist, two blocks and two digs vs. UCSD (Sat.).

The Violets remain No.1 ahead of the UVC Tournament this weekend. The competition begins April 11, but NYU won’t play until Saturday where their first opponent will be either St. John Fisher or New Paltz. The Championship takes place on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

The Knights are back to No. 2 as we close out the rankings on DIII for the regular season. It’s thanks in part to a loss by Springfield, but also due to SVU completing the regular season with only one loss. The Knights are in the CVC tournament this weekend with the first opponent being Marymount. The CVC Final takes place on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.

Springfield lost its final two matches of the regular season to Vassar and Merrimack but fell only one spot in this week’s roundup. Tensions will be high on Monday at 10:00 am ET during the NCAA tournament selection process where Springfield will hope to earn an at-large berth to the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament.
USA Volleyball National Team Development Program/Springfield
Springfield is coached by Charlie Sullivan who has been head coach for the Boys U19 National Team since 2021. In 2024, he coached the Boys U19 team that took gold at the NORCECA Continental Championship. Sullivan received USA Volleyball’s All-Time Great Coach award in 2015.
Stevens is competing in the MAC Championship this weekend. The No. 4 Ducks defeated Stevenson 3-1 in the semis and will enjoy home court advantage in the final as the host of the tournament.

Juniata will also take part in the CVC tournament this weekend. Friday’s opponent is Rutgers Newark and could perhaps be a precursor to a meeting with No. 2 Southern Virginia in the final.

NTDP PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
This week’s roundup change reflects the big upset from the past week where UCI handed Long Beach its first loss of the season (0-3) on Friday night. UCI moves up to No. 4 and Hawaii drops down to No. 5. In DIII, we are ready for conference tournaments. Springfield and Southern Virginia flip flop, while NYU is still leading the pack after completing a perfect 23-0 regular season.
No change this week to the top five rankings across both DI/II. Our top five appears solidified as we ready for the final stretch of the regular season with less than a month to go until the playoffs. In DIII, Stevens makes a return to the roundup, jumping from No. 6 to No. 4.
Long Beach and UCLA remain your top two teams for another week, but results from the Outrigger Invitational have flipped the rest of the top five on its head, with USC’s two place jump highlighting the changes. In DIII, there is no change. NYU still leads the pack at 19-0 entering the week, but Southern Virginia earned nine votes from the AVCA.
