COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 26, 2026) – The U.S. Men’s National Team improved to 4-0 at the 2026 NORCECA Final Six with a 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 15-11) victory over Dominican Republic on Wednesday in Ponce, Puerto Rico. It marked the second five-set win in two days for the U.S., who came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Canada on Tuesday.
The U.S. will conclude preliminary round play against host Puerto Rico (2-1) at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
The Dominican Republic held a slight edge in kills (56-53), but the U.S. led in blocks (12-5) and service aces (11-6). The teams combined for 35 service errors and 65 total errors.
Outside hitter Sterling Foley recorded match-bests in points (26), kills (18), blocks (3) and shared match-high honors with five aces. He hit .571 with only two errors in 28 attacks and finished with seven excellent receptions.
Opposite Kainoa Wade scored 14 points on nine kills, two blocks and three aces. Outside Patrick Rogers rounded out the U.S. double-digit scorers with 13 points on 10 kills, one block and two aces, while also recording a match-high 10 excellent receptions. Middle blockers Jackson Cryst (nine points on six kills, two blocks and an ace) and Micah Wong Diallo (seven points on five kills and two blocks) combined for 16 points.
Setter Tread Rosenthal led the U.S. offense to a .375 hitting efficiency percentage and totaled six points on four kills and a pair of blocks. Libero Jacob Reilly led the team with nine digs and also added nine excellent receptions.
The teams alternated the first 10 points before the Dominican Republic took a three-point lead, 8-5. A Foley kill brought the U.S. within two, 11-9, but Dominican Republic scored five of the next six points. Wade and Foley recorded back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to four points, 17-13. Back-to-back Wade aces cut the deficit to one point, 19-18. The U.S. pulled within a point two more times, once an error and another on a Wade kill, but an ace put Dominican Republic back up by three, 23-20. After a service error, Dominican Republic scored the last two points to take the set. Foley (six kills) and Wade (three kills, two aces) combined for 11 points.
A Rosenthal block gave the U.S. its first lead of the match, 3-2, in the second set. A Cryst kill and Foley ace put the U.S. up 5-3, but Dominican Republic ran off the next four points. A Rogers kill tied the set at 10 apiece and a Foley block gave the U.S. the lead again. Another Rogers kill put the U.S. up 17-15 and a Foley kill made the score 20-18. A Dominican Republic error gave the U.S. a 22-19 advantage. Rosenthal earned set point for the U.S., 24-20, with a kill on the second ball. Nine of the previous 12 combined points between the two teams before Rosenthal’s score resulted from an error. Wade ended the set with a kill. Foley scored six points on three kills, two blocks and an ace.
A Cryst kill and Foley ace gave the U.S. its first lead of the third set, 5-4. After Dominican Republic scored the next two points, the U.S. regained the advantage on a block and kill from Rosenthal and a Cryst ace. Kills by Foley and Wong Diallo pushed the U.S. lead to four points, 11-7. Wade scored on consecutive plays, first on a block and then on a kill, for a 14-8 lead. A Rogers ace doubled up the score, 16-8. A Wade ace put the U.S. up 19-10 and a Foley ace raised the margin to double digits, 21-11. A Wong Diallo block put the U.S. ahead 23-12 before Dominican Republic ran off the next four points to force a U.S. timeout. Two errors gave the U.S. a 2-1 set lead. Foley paced the U.S. with six points on four kills and a pair of aces.
A Cryst block to start the fourth set marked the first time in the match that the U.S. scored the first point. Cryst gave the U.S. a 5-3 lead with a kill and Rogers extended the lead to three points, 8-5, before Dominican Republic tied the score with three points in a row. With the score 11-11, a kill and two aces from Foley combined with a Rogers block put the U.S. up 15-11. Rosenthal scored on a second ball to raise the margin to five points, 17-12. After Dominican Republic cut the deficit to three, 19-16, Wong Diallo and Foley delivered kills to push the lead back to five. Dominican Republic scored the next six points to take a 22-21 lead and prompt a second U.S. timeout during the 6-0 run. A Wade kill tied the set again, but Dominican Republic earned set point by scoring the next two points. The U.S. saved one set point on a Cryst kill before an error evened the match at two sets apiece. Foley scored six points on four kills and two aces with Rogers adding five points on three kills, a block and an ace.
A Foley block gave the U.S. an early 3-1 lead in the decisive set. Leading 3-2, the U.S. ran its advantage to four points, 6-2, with a Cryst kill and block surrounding a Rosenthal kill. Rogers scored to put the U.S. up 8-4. After a Dominican Republic hitting error and timeout, a Wade block extended the margin to six, 10-4. After surrendering the next two points, the U.S. took an 11-6 lead on a Foley kill. Wong Diallo kill put the U.S. ahead 12-7 and a Dominican Republic service error made the score 13-8. A Dominican Republic block cut the lead to three points, 13-10. Cryst’s team-high third point of the set and second kill set up match point at 14-11, and the U.S. sealed the win on another Dominican Republic hitting error.
