U.S. Women's Sitting Team

EDMOND, Okla. (June 17, 2021) – The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team is preparing for the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 with an exhibition match on Saturday against Canada at 7 p.m. at the Wellness Center at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

Spectators are welcome at the matches and admission is free. Masks are encouraged. The match will also be live streamed on the USA Volleyball Facebook page.

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team is ranked No. 1 in the world and is the defending Paralympic gold medalist. Canada is ranked fifth and has also qualified for the Paralympic Games.

“We are excited to get back on the court with Team Canada this coming weekend,” U.S. outside hitter and Team Captain Katie Holloway said. “Canada always challenges us, and we can’t wait to play together again!”

The U.S. Women last played Canada at the 2019 Parapan American Games, where the U.S. swept their North American neighbors (25-14, 25-17, 25-12). The U.S. also won five exhibition matches against Canada in Denver earlier in 2019.

“We haven’t been able to play another team since before Covid, so this is a great opportunity to come watch the No. 1 ranked team in the world train as we prepare for the Tokyo Paralympic in August,” U.S. outside hitter Nicole Millage said.

“It’s not every day that we get to play here in Oklahoma, and I believe it will be a ton of fun for everyone,” libero Sydney Satchell added. “If you’ve never seen us play, you’re in for a real treat. Come cheer us on!”
