Women's Sitting Team Wins Pool; Waits for Next Opponent

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 7, 2022) – The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team finished pool play undefeated after sweeping Slovenia on Monday (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) at the World ParaVolley World Championship in Sarajevo.

Since they won their pool, the U.S. Women get Tuesday off and will play Germany (1-3) at in the quarterfinals at 4:45 a.m. CT on Wednesday. The other women’s pool winners were Brazil (3-0) and Rwanda (3-0).

The U.S. Women led Slovenia in kills (36-19) and aces (10-3) and the teams tied in blocks (8-8).

Outside hitter Whitney Dosty led all scorers with 16 points on nine kills, a match-high five aces and two blocks.

Middle blocker Lora Webster added 11 points on five kills, a match-high five blocks and one ace.

Opposite Heather Erickson scored 11 points on 10 kills and one ace. Outside hitter Monique Matthews scored nine points on seven kills and two aces. She led the team in receptions with 14: 43 percent positive.

Middle Tia Edwards started the first and third sets and scored four points on three kills and one block. Middle Nicky Nieves started the second set for Edwards and scored a point with a kill.

Setter Lexi Shifflett scored one point on a kill and set the team to a .299 hitting efficiency. Slovenia hit .133. Libero Bethany Zummo tallied 10 receptions: 40 percent positive. Libero Sydney Satchel started the second set for Zummo. Emma Schieck also played as a substitute.
