COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 15, 2024) –The U.S. Girls U19 Team defeated Canada, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-15) on Monday at the Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. With its 2-0 record, the U.S. is the only undefeated team in Pool A of the 2024 NORCECA Continental Championship.

The U.S. will conclude preliminary round play at 3 p.m. PT against Puerto Rico (1-1) on Tuesday (July 16). The first-place team in each pool advances directly to Thursday’s semifinals.

“Canada is a very good volleyball team and I thought we put suffocating-like pressure on them from beginning to end,” said U.S. head coach Jamie Morrison. “I’m proud of our team for the way we are developing throughout this tournament and can’t wait for our next match.”

The U.S. Girls U19 team dominated in every statistical category, finishing with a 39-14 advantage in kills, 10-4 in blocks and 7-0 in service aces. Canada hit -.147 for the match, while the U.S. hit at a .273 hitting efficiency percentage.

For the second time in as many matches, the top five scorers in the match were all from the U.S. team. Middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie and outside hitter Audrey Flanagan each scored 13 points with Flanagan posting match-highs of nine kills, six digs and three successful receptions to go with two blocks and two aces. Ogbechie notched seven kills with a match-high three aces and shared the match-best with three blocks.

Outside Kelly Kinney matched Flanagan’s nine kills and added a block. Fellow outside Henley Anderson also reached double digits with 10 points on seven kills and equaled Ogbechie with three blocks. Middle Elena Hoecke scored seven points on six kills and an ace.

Libero Aniya Warren registered five digs with setter Isabelle Hoppe contributing three digs and an ace in addition to running the effective U.S. offense.

After the teams split the first 16 points of the match, the U.S. took the first set lead for good by scoring three of the next four points. Flanagan led the squad with six points on four kills, a block and an ace. Ogbechie added five points on four kills and a block.

The U.S. jumped out to a 6-2 lead and cruised to a second set victory. Ogbechie served three aces during a decisive 8-0 run that extended the lead to 12 points, 22-10. She recorded two kills and a block to total six points in the set. Anderson scored four points on three kills and an ace. Flanagan, Hoecke and Kinney each contributed three points.

Kinney recorded three kills in a 10-0 run that turned an early 3-1 deficit into an 11-3 U.S. lead in the third set. A block by opposite J.J. Robinson extended the lead to 10 points, 22-12. Kinney (four kills) and Flanagan (two kills, one block, one ace) each scored four points in the set, while Anderson added three points on a pair of kills and a block.
