In this week’s beach update, we recap how the U.S. came away with two medals from BPT Challenge Haikou after starting in the qualification rounds. Plus, we look ahead to BPT Challenge Chennai this week in India, with only two weeks to go until the last pro tour events of the year.
TOKYO (July 23, 2021) – The U.S. Women’s National Team enters the Olympic Games Tokyo 2021 as the top-ranked team in the world and the three-time FIVB Volleyball Nations League champion.
In 2016, the U.S. Men’s National Team had eight players in Rio de Janeiro competing in their first Olympic Games. Even with such a young team, the U.S. Men fought back from an 0-2 pool-play start and a crushing semifinal loss to Italy to earn the bronze medal.
A balance of youth and experience combine to form the U.S. Olympic beach volleyball team for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Four pairs – two women’s, two men’s – will represent the U.S. at the beach volleyball event taking place at Shiokaze Park.
USA Volleyball and Stevenson University are offering a men’s collegiate beach tournament on Sept. 11-12 in Owings Mills, Md., as part of USAV’s National Team Development Program. The event will be open to 16 pairs of male athletes who will be scouted through the USA Volleyball Scouting Network. Top finishers will have an opportunity to be invited to future NTDP programming.
