COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 15, 2026) – The U.S. Women’s Sitting National Team, ranked No. 1 in the world, defeated No. 4 Italy, 3-1 (25-14, 15-25, 25-14, 25-19) on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2026 World ParaVolley World Championship in Hangzhou, China.

The U.S. (5-0) will meet Canada in the semifinals at 10:30 p.m. PT.

“Getting to the semifinals is half the battle. We played a little up and down today, but solid overall. We did what we needed to do. I think the players are starting to feel a little bit of that pressure, so we’ve got to deal with that off the court,” said U.S. head coach Bill Hamiter. “Overall, they know they can do it, just they just need to keep settling down and play their game.”

The U.S. recorded more kills (40-34), blocks (12-9) and aces (17-12).

Middle blocker Nicky Nieves led all players with seven aces, adding six kills, and was one of six U.S. players with two blocks to finish with a team-best 15 points. Tia Edwards totaled 14 points on eight kills, four aces and two blocks. Monique Matthews also scored 14 points, combining a team-high 10 kills with two aces and two blocks. Emma Shieck rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points on seven kills, two aces and two blocks.

Kaleo Kanahele Maclay scored eight points on four kills, two aces and two blocks. Katie Bridge added seven points on five kills and two blocks.
