2010 FIVB / USA VOLLEYBALL HIGH PERFORMANCE AGE-GROUP CLASSIFICATIONS
In accordance with goals of the USA Volleyball High Performance Dept to provide aspiring young volleyball players with world-class training and competition, High Performance age-group classifications are consistent with those established by the FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball). Those age-group classifications govern international competition and all levels of HP programs.
Please note that these age-group classifications differ from USA Volleyball Junior club age definitions and also from grade classifications of US school systems.

A1 Programs
This is the National level of the USA Volleyball High Performance Program. This level consists of Men's and Women's Junior National Teams (MJNT, WJNT), Boys' and Girls' Youth National Teams (BYNT, GYNT) and Boys' and Girls' Select A1 camps (BSA1, GSA1). Junior and Youth Teams include the top 19 athletes per gender and age group chosen from High Performance Tryouts.
The MJNT, WJNT, BYNT, and GYNT represent the USA at the NORCECA Zonal Championships (even years), and, upon qualifying, at the FIVB World Championships the following year (odd years). These 4 teams usually train leading up to the event in the U.S. and then the top 12 athletes travel outside of the country to participate in the Championship event.

BYNT- 2010 U-19 Continental Championship- Tijuana, Mexico
Competition Dates: April 3-11, 2010
GYNT- 2010 NORCECA U-18 Continental Championship- Guatemala
Competition Dates: April 25- May 10, 2010
The 2010 NORCECA Continental Championship schedule creates a challenge for USAV. The Girls' Youth National Team (GYNT) will compete at its NORCECA Championship in Guatemala April 25- May 3. Typically, this tournaments is held much later in the year, usually July or August. Due to the tournament serving two purposes; it is the FIVB World Championship qualifier as well the qualifier for the first ever 2010 Youth Olympics hosted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Although the GYNT will compete in the NORCECA Championship, the team was not one of the predetermined eligible countries to compete for a team spot in the Youth Olympics. With other NORCECA countries eligible for the Youth Olympics, the very early competition date for the NORCECA Youth Championships was mandated in order for teams to qualify.
Since the Girls' competition is scheduled before the conclusion of the 2010 tryouts, USAV determined the most viable solution was to utilize the HP Holiday Camp to conduct a tryout. Eighteen athletes were invited based on their 2009 performance as Select age athletes. The 12 roster spots were determined over the eight day tryout.
To deal with the inequity of the situation the top Youth athletes from all tryouts will comprise the Youth A1/A2 Program at the 2010 High Performance Championships. All eighteen athletes, including the 12 GYNT players are slotted to participate in the GYA1/A2 Program this summer providing a competitive venue for all Youth Athletes to determine the top athletes for 2010, a key process moving into 2011 and the Girls' World Championship.
If you have specific questions regarding the Girls' Youth National Team, feel free to contact Heath Hoke, heath.hoke@usav.org
